How did we study the ATV usage?

The study area was located in the barrenlands and the semi-rural parklands of Pippy Park.Three main sample locations were chosen based on previous knowledge. The study area consisted of forest cover, open areas, and marshlands. These locations were on the Northwest and Northeast sides of the park. The areas that were chosen have neighboring communities where public can easily enter on motorized vehicles right from their backyard.

Our main objectives were to:

1. Map out where the motorized vehicles were going in the park

2. Find high damage areas

3. Describe the extent of concerns with regards to the damaged areas.

We described and measured damaged areas by taking pictures and notes of type of vegetation and vehicle type.

This was done through January and February 2013.

Each described area was marked with GPS coordinates.

Additional comments were taken of any destruction and disturbances.

Data point were then mapped and analysized.

The analysis allowed us to create maps with layers of the trails, the point of entrance and the locations of markers.
